Weekend
for Heroes July 30 – August 2, 2009
HAI again
had the pleasure of hosting a group of soldiers seriously wounded
during tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and presently being
treated at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) in Washington,
D.C. These men and women are undergoing treatment in the Brain Trauma
and Amputee Units at WRAMC and may return to active duty.
The group
came for a fun-filled weekend in New York City to enjoy authentic
experiences, including a reception at HAI’s SoHo office/loft,
a private welcome at 7 World Trade Center for an expansive view
of Ground Zero from the 48th floor, a World Yacht Hudson River cruise,
the ringing of the NYSE closing bell, tickets to award-winning Broadway
shows and the Mostly Mozart Festival, breakfast at the Hard Rock
Café, tickets to the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey
Circus in Coney Island, and more.
“Weekend for Heroes”
is a time for these soldiers, from 9 states, and their loved ones
to relax and enjoy themselves. “We want to express our tremendous
respect and gratitude for these men and women who sacrifice so much
to serve our country. And what better way to show our appreciation
than by sharing the great wonders of New York City,” said
Michael Jon Spencer, Founder and Executive Director at HAI. “We
discovered from the last soldier visit, this was more than just
a fun trip; it was an opportunity for healing…. away from
the hospitals and demanding therapy schedules to spend quality time
reconnecting with loved ones.”
HAI appreciates
the generosity of Silverstein Properties, The NYSE Euronext, World
Yacht, Lincoln Center, Hilton Hotels Corp., the Broadway companies
of Mary Poppins, Chicago, and The Phantom
of the Opera, Shaun Mader Photography, All Affairs Chair Rental,
Balthazar, Blue Ridge Farms, Cafe Metro, Candle 79, Chelsea Market
Baskets, McDonald's, Nathan's, Patsy's Pizza, Pizza 33, and Todaro's.

We are looking forward
to continuing this program and hosting many more soldiers from Walter
Reed Army Medical Center in the future. Your generosity would make
this possible.
Thank you.
